The Reverend Dr. Anthony Holder


Rector

The Rev. Dr. Anthony B. Holder (Fr. Tony) came to Holy Sacrament as its third Rector on January 1, 2011. He previously served in Illinois and Barbados. Prior to becoming a priest, Fr. Tony was a graphic artist at a publishing company and subsequently a high school Art Teacher in Barbados.

Ordained in 1993 and 1994 as deacon and priest respectively, Fr. Holder graduated from the University of the West Indies, Codrington College Theological Seminary, and Trinity School for Ministry where he received his Doctor of Ministry degree in 2009. As a priest in Barbados, Dr. Holder was a member of and chaired Boards of Management of elementary schools. He also served as a chaplain to schools and a member of the Diocesan Commission on Evangelism.

While in the Diocese of Springfield, Fr. Tony served as Spiritual Director of Happening and Church Camp, Diocesan Web Manager and a Member of the Communications Department, Chair of National and World Mission, Dean of the Western Deanery, a Member, Vice President, and President Pro Tempore of the Diocesan Council, President of the Standing Committee, and Clerical Deputy to the 2009 General Convention. He was also a member of the O’Fallon Ministerial Alliance.

Since coming to the Diocese of Southeast Florida, Fr. Tony was a Member of the Social Justice Commission, and of the Bishop Search Committee, which facilitated the election of the Fourth Bishop. He currently serves on the Standing Committee, and the Cathedral Chapter of Trinity Cathedral, Miami.

Dr. Holder was named one of the Eight Most Influential Barbadians in Florida by the Barbados American Chamber of Commerce, and Caribbean National Weekly, received the Clergy Award from the Broward County Chapter of the UN Association of the USA and UN Foundation, and was honored by Friends Supporting the Anglican Diocese of Belize, Inc. in New York, for his commitment and leadership in community service, particularly to mission work in Belize.

Fr. Tony loves preaching and teaching, enabling people to grow in faith, working with youth and children’s ministries, and engaging in missionary work, which he has done in a number of countries. He has led retreats and seminars and have been the keynote speaker at prayer breakfasts and other events. He currently serves on the Board of Directors of Samuel’s Call, a non-profit organization which supports and empowers underprivileged children in South Florida and the world.

Dr. Holder and his wife, Judith, have two children, a son, and a daughter. He enjoys Art, reading, tennis, traveling, and spending time with family and friends.
